Briefly cooked

What kind of meals you’ll be served on an Austrian short- or mid-haul flight depends on different factors. What goes for all our meals, though: Our catering partner DO&CO always guarantees fresh products and top quality.

Those who decide for a Business Class ticket will also notice the added value in the exclusivity of the meals served: For instance, passengers in Business Class from Vienna to Frankfurt, Zurich or Amsterdam are these days enjoying chicken breast Tikka with Saksuka (a salad made of eggplant and peppers), spicy couscous, fried zucchini, basil pesto and spinach salad with yoghurt, followed by creamy Tiramisu for dessert. But we also want to surprise our Economy Class passengers with culinary delights: On routes such as Vienna-Moscow or Vienna-London we are currently serving Indian chicken curry “Makhani” with fragrant basmati rice and a slice of Styrian walnut cake for dessert.

Which meals will actually be available on board strongly depends on the so-called block time. This is the time “between the moment an aircraft leaves its parking position to taxi to the runway for take-off until it comes to a complete standstill at its final parking position and all engines are turned off” – so much for the official definition.

As many of you surely know, once you deduct the time for starting and landing on very short flights, there are hardly more than 15 minutes left for board service. On such flights, even our skilled flight attendants cannot whip up a full-course menu onto the trays as they do on mid-haul flights – instead you can choose between small chocolate snacks, salty nibbles or a hot sandwich.

Of course, the time of day is essential too: Those who are flying high above the clouds in the early morning expect a breakfast – which they will naturally get. Also in this case, flight destination and flight time will decide whether it’s going to be a delicious muffin, a select variety of cheese and ham or scrambled eggs with freshly baked rolls.
The whole range of menus is being changed several times over the year. Frequent flyers like having variety!
